This book collects a wide spectrum of writings on race within the subcultural context, including a 2002 piece I wrote for Mimi Nguyen’s compilation zine, Evolution of a Race Riot #2. The piece is in the company of Lester Bangs, Dick Hebdige, Darryl A. Jenifer (Bad Brains), Norman Mailer, Greil Marcus, Jimmy Pursey (Sham 69), Jon Savage (England’s Dreaming), Martin Sorrendeguy (Los Crudos, Limp Wrist), Paul Simonon (The Clash), Patti Smith, James Spooner (Afropunk documentary), and more.

Put together by Henry Owings and written by the Chunklet magazine staff, this standardized test fillets everything great and awful about Indie Rock and culture. I helped with joke contributions and wrote an introduction titled “A Brief History of Cool” (their title, not mine). An unedited version is after the jump.
